With a highly sought after harbour-view building site in Sydney’s exclusive Mosman and the client and interior design team absent throughout a large portion of the build, a lot of faith was instilled in builder Lexpol Group to deliver this monolithic home – faith it seems that was well deserved. Combining a minimalist aesthetic with complex design principals and expertly executed finishes, the result is nothing short of a contemporary masterpiece.
In recognition of their outstanding effort, Lexpol Group won Best Contract Home in its category for this spectacular residence at the Master Builders Association NSW 2020 Excellence in Housing Awards. Managing Director, Alex Politano was also a finalist for the Master Builders Association NSW 2020 Young Builder of the Year Award.
Extensive groundwork was required to prepare for construction of this spectacular 4 storey residence. Working under difficult conditions that included a steep, sloping site, restricted laneway access and close-set neighbouring properties, the Lexpol team skillfully excavated nearly 3000 cubic meters of rock to accommodate a total of 975qm of living space. The 300sqm basement level houses a gym with stunning pool viewing window, a sauna, garage and a laundry room. The upper levels incorporate 5 over-sized bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, multiple living spaces, a cellar, indoor spa with retractable skylight and an outdoor spa set in beautifully landscaped gardens.
Both the finishes and material selection in this home are second to none, from the large format, vein-matched porcelain tiles to the Italian-designed kitchen and LED strip lighting on the rear façade that highlights the home’ unique contemporary design.
One of the most extraordinary features, is the retention of the natural sandstone backdrop behind the temperature-controlled cellar that adds an organic warmth to the sleek, minimalist interior.
A custom-made 6.6 meters stainless steel T shaped beam was required to support the size of three enormous glass panels that form part of the extensive glazing that features throughout the home, adding natural light and maximising the harbour views. Seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces have been achieved with pocket sliding doors, which create expansive areas for living and entertaining.
At every turn the skill of the Lexpol team is visible in the flawless execution of complex architectural features that include custom-made aluminium balustrading which spans all 4 levels, curving both in flight and under the stairs, made all the more difficult given the 100kg weight of each panel. Most notable perhaps are the concrete columns and beams that were formed and poured in one go to ensure of consistency and create a front façade that resembles a modern-day ‘Stonehenge’ – ensuring this exceptional home is set to become an iconic local landmark.
