The Cliff top house is a gorgeous completed project designed by Joe Adsett Architects and built by Brisbane’s multi-award winning MCD Construction. Situated atop a 10m cliff face on Teneriffe Hill, the original, traditional style cottage has been retained and a three storey ultra-modern, elevated extension has been added to the home, creating a spectacular, sculpture like home high above the street.
The client’s brief was for an ultra-modern home with cutting edge design features and working in close collaboration with the client and architect MCD Construction executed the brief with outstanding results and despite the difficulties associated with the complexity of the build and both the cliff top position with narrow street access.
Keeping the charm of the double brick, single gabled cottage, the extension is predominately off form concrete and rendered block trimmed with rosewood timber windows and doors. It features 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 offices, gym, cinema, external kitchen, multiple external entertaining spaces, lap pool and a roof-top golf green that offers spectacular views over the city.
This cliff top house was designed to take advantage of the 3.5 storey height and natural convection air flows, the passive solar considerations ensure the home is extremely cool in the summer. The home also has automated blinds and louvres and the top floor has thermostat controlled extraction fans to maintain the temperate of the home with minimal use of air-conditioning.
Throughout the interiors a selection of quality materials in neutral tones including spotted timber floors, rosewood joinery, Elba stone and walls finished in off form concrete and Marakesh plaster create a sophisticated, contemporary finish that that thanks to the extensive use of timber is also warm and inviting.
