If a home was judged on uniqueness alone this spectacular home in Sydney’s Yowie Bay would be a stand out winner, but it’s the incredible skill and workmanship that has gone into the construction of this home by builders ACG Building that saw it recently awarded the 2016 HIA CSR NSW Home of the Year.

Judges comments were … “the waterfront property leaves nothing to the imagination” and from the moment you enter through the custom made two meter wide entry door below a stunning porte cochere of two perfectly parallel panels that angled upwards – reaching for the sky, it’s clearly evident that this home is very special.

The owner’s dream was to build something that would make people smile and be inspired at every turn and this has certainly been achieved. Of course as expected of a home of this caliber it has been completed with a central Cbus system and state of the art appliances but nothing in this home is ordinary.

With furnishings by Sally Taylor Design and interiors designed by Michael McCann of Dreamtime Australia Design every aspect of this home is bespoke – even the angles of the walls.
“There is not a square wall in the house – everything is off the radius” Director Peter Phokos said of the build, and looking around the time and skill that has gone into achieving the stunning end result is very apparent.

Timber and stone have been used extensively combined with an abundance of high quality finishes from the timber floor right up to the ceiling that has been treated with both stucco and timber panelling installed with expert precision by Optima Joinery

Using a mix of high quality materials and detailed finishes, superior craftsmanship was absolutely essential to enable each unique feature to combine together and create the luxurious end result. With precision paramount, two stonemasons worked full time on the extensive stone work throughout the home cutting each stone individually both to size and to varied widths.

Working with a steep, sloping site and a unique fan shaped design that enabled the home to take full advantage of the water views, the complexity of the build was not restricted to the internal finishes. Incredible accuracy was required when pegging the site to ensure the home would piece together perfectly.

Even the beautiful infinity edge pool posed difficulties being positioned above a council sewer liner requiring exceptional care throughout construction. With the complexity of the build and with so many superior finishes throughout you may be to hear what Peter Phokos’ most product of, “…the  angled roof on the front of the building, the grooves of the roof blades line up with the inside of the house so that if you put a laser line through that, they would be dead straight, that gives me the most pleasure”

A humble response from the builder whose team has created this incredible landmark home despite the many obstacles and with the attention to detail seen throughout, clearly deserving winners of this prestigious award.
