From the front of this new home in Ramsgate Beach it’s difficult to conceive the large family home that exists behind the façade. Clever use of the land, that was once home to a single storey fibro cottage, means that a spacious home with alfresco, swimming pool, and outbuilding now sits comfortably on the block, with room to spare.

The brief provided by this young couple was to have a home that reflected their vibrant personalities. They wanted ostentatious entertaining spaces that would wow their frequent guests yet were also practical for day to day living. This was certainly achieved within the expansive open –plan living area which easily flows from kitchen, to dining, to living room and features a stunning open-treat staircase in the centre. At the far end, the oversized glass walls bring the outside in, while a small patch of grass divides the home from the outbuilding; an additional living space with lounge area and barbecue.

Breaking from the norm of having a swimming pool right at the back of the property, Tecton Group designed this pool at the side of the home so it was visible from all living areas, becoming a striking water feature.

Use of materials, both inside and out, was also very important to the clients who wanted modern materials that would not require much maintenance. Particularly important was the façade of the home, designed so as to sit comfortably in its surroundings, opposite a heritage conservation area. The proposed timber feature wall was substituted with Alucabond cladding with a timber colour and pattern to give the illusion of timber without the hassle of maintaining it, and a feature canopy was designed to imitate the canopies of the trees opposite the home, while copper metallic panels subtly reflect the surrounding environment.

As with every home that Tecton builds, this home has been finished with exceptional attention to detail and is a unique expression of the client’s individuality whilst still be consistent with the sophistication and quality that is representative of this award winning builder.
