Perth’s coastal suburb of City Beach has long been home to some of the state’s most impressive luxury residences, and this new build adds to that reputation with a considered interior that is as refined as it is functional. At the centre of it all is Brightwood Design, the cabinet makers tasked with delivering every piece of joinery and cabinetry throughout the home. From the kitchen and scullery to the bar, office, alfresco, bathrooms, bedrooms, and even two custom designed feature walls, Brightwood’s work touches every corner of the property, pulling the design together with a cohesive modern lux feel.

The scale of the commission is reflected in the detail with over $370,000 worth of custom cabinetry and joinery, all carefully designed, finished, and installed to exacting standards. The project has since been entered into this year’s HIA Awards, where its calibre and execution are set to be recognised on a national stage.

In the kitchen, the homeowners wanted something that would stand apart while still feeling timeless. Porcelain-clad doors and benchtops in Stone Ambassador’s emerald green create a bold, different, architectural statement, softened with J-profile two-pack painted cabinetry in a semi-gloss finish with a subtle green tinge. The design is as practical as it is striking, with servo-driven hardware for effortless operation, integrated LED lighting, and premium appliances such as V-ZUG that set the benchmark for performance. High quality tapware and integrated cooker complete the space, ensuring that the kitchen not only looks sophisticated but functions at the highest level.

The bar is another standout feature and was designed to act as both a visual centrepiece and an entertainer’s home. A dramatic backlit panel of white quartz sets the tone, paired with a granite benchtop for contrast and depth. The custom cabinetry continues the theme with painted semi-gloss doors, again using premium hardware and appliances to keep the standard consistent throughout. The effect is a bar that feels carved from stone and light, elevated beyond the idea of a simple entertaining zone into something sculptural.

In the living areas, the design pivots toward darker tones and moodier finishes. Two custom TV cabinets and feature walls were created using black woodmatt, including curved wall detailing that adds texture and dimension. Cabinetry finished in satin contrasts beautifully with LED lighting and porcelain tops in emerald green. These joinery elements transform what might have been ordinary media walls into custom focal points that contribute to the home’s layered palette.

The same attention to detail is evident in every functional space. The laundry incorporates a convenient chute, durable porcelain matt benchtops, and the reliability of quality appliances, while the bedrooms bring warmth and subtle drama through cabinetry and premium collection hardware. LED lighting adds a touch of luxury even in the most practical corners. Bathrooms feature vanities crafted from timber panelling paired with push-to-open fittings and porcelain tops that echo the laundry’s material palette, tying the house together visually.

Outdoor living was not forgotten, with the alfresco space designed to withstand Western Australia’s coastal climate. UV-protected painted cabinetry in the home’s signature semi-gloss green is paired with granite benchtops, ensuring durability without losing any of the polish of the interiors. The office, meanwhile, blends formal and tactile with a solid timber benchtop and cabinetry finished in the familiar semi-gloss green, bringing consistency while also defining the workspace.

Across each space, the philosophy was clear: to achieve a modern lux feel that would be instantly recognisable yet practical enough for daily life. The highlights are many, but perhaps none more so than the porcelain-clad kitchen with servo-driven hardware and the bar with its luminous quartz backdrop. Together, these spaces set the tone for the rest of the home, demonstrating Brightwood Design’s ability to push beyond the ordinary and deliver interiors where materials, detailing, and craftsmanship align seamlessly.

The result is a home where cabinetry is not just a supporting act but a defining feature. Every room tells the story of precision, collaboration, and a commitment to quality that extends to the smallest detail. With the involvement of respected collaborators including Hafele, Stone Ambassador, Miele, Blum, and Polytec, the project is as much about partnerships as it is about design. For Brightwood Design, this City Beach residence is a showcase of what custom cabinetry can achieve when it becomes the cornerstone of a home’s identity.
