First revealed late last year, the Gaggenau Expressive Series marked a significant moment for the brand – its first completely new cavity design in almost two decades. Rooted in Bauhaus principles and modernist restraint, the Expressive Series introduces a refined visual language that balances precision engineering with a strong architectural presence, offering architects, designers and discerning homeowners a fresh point of reference for integrated luxury kitchens.
At its core, the Gaggenau Expressive series balances restraint with precision. Materials are used sparingly, allowing form and proportion to take the lead. Each element has been carefully considered for visual harmony, including newly developed details such as the floating control ring – an interactive feature positioned on the seamless glass door. Both functional and architectural, the ring highlights Gaggenau’s expertise in metal craftsmanship while reinforcing the relationship between form and usability.
Designed to accommodate a broad spectrum of culinary requirements, the expressive series includes ovens, combi-steam ovens, combi-microwave ovens, fully automatic espresso machines, culinary warming drawers and vacuum drawers. Across the range, professional-grade performance is delivered without compromising the visual discipline that defines the collection.
The ovens are equipped with a high-performance heating system and a full-surface grill, set behind Gaggenau’s signature blue enamel interior. Temperatures reach up to 300°C, while an intuitive interface activates via a proximity sensor as you approach. A one-touch door opening mechanism, advanced automatic programs, a multi-point core temperature probe and a pyrolytic self-cleaning system complete the offering.
In the combi-steam oven, convection and humidity are combined with a discreetly integrated full-surface grill and automatic programs that provide expert recommendations. The result is precise control across a wide range of techniques – from sous-vide and bread baking to regenerated dishes, roasts and fish. Cleaning is handled via cartridge and automatic programs, ensuring maintenance is as considered as performance.
The culinary warming drawer functions as a low-temperature cooker with preset controls and stable heat, supporting tasks such as dough proving, drying herbs and fruit, defrosting, melting chocolate, yoghurt preparation and warming tableware. The 28cm height option offers one of the largest capacities in its class, further enhanced by a second-level grid that maximises usable space and enables the management of multiple courses simultaneously.
Food preservation is addressed through the vacuum drawer, which offers three adaptive vacuuming levels suited to everything from delicate ingredients to more robust produce. Ideal for sous-vide preparation and flavour enhancement, it brings professional techniques into the domestic kitchen environment.
Coffee preparation is handled by the fully automatic espresso machine, offering two distinct modes. Classic mode allows for fast, straightforward preparation, while Barista mode enables deeper customisation. By entering the roast level of the beans, the machine automatically adjusts grind size and other parameters. These settings can be saved as personalised favourites for consistent results with minimal effort.
Each appliance is produced through a combination of advanced manufacturing and hands-on craftsmanship. A small group of artisans complete the final hand-brushing of the stainless steel surfaces, achieving a finish that cannot be replicated by machine. Precision-chamfered edges are created using custom milling techniques, reinforcing the series’ emphasis on detail and material quality.
Sven Baacke, Gaggenau Head of Design, says, “This new cavity series is significant because it’s the first completely new design in almost twenty years. It’s not just an appliance but a piece of art. This design balances tradition and innovation, honouring our roots while looking forward.” He adds, “One of the key features of the Gaggenau Expressive series design is its recognisable form, the ‘two frames and a circle’ concept, which merges aesthetics and professional-grade functionality. The materials and geometry have been refined—fewer visible screws, smoother joints, and perfected surfaces.”
Alexander Stuhler, Gaggenau Industrial Designer, adds, “The Gaggenau Expressive series stands out because it transforms the kitchen space into something beyond functionality. It’s about delight and pleasure – people connect with this design because it creates a unique experience, and that’s what differentiates it from other products on the market.”
In terms of interaction, Soeren Strayle, Gaggenau User Interaction and Interface Designer, says, “This floating ring has been a long journey for us. We explored numerous prototypes, many of which contributed to the final product. With the display now hidden behind the front glass and the ring floating in front of it, we have created a tangible element within a digital environment, where both worlds seamlessly merge.“
Dr. Peter Goetz, Managing Director of Gaggenau, states, “The new series epitomises Gaggenau’s design statement. It embodies a subtle design that it becomes sculptural. This series reflects our commitment to combining advanced culinary technology with intuitive design, offering a refined aesthetic and exceptional functionality for the discerning chef.”
The Gaggenau Expressive series marks a clear evolution in how Gaggenau approaches performance, usability and architectural integration.
