For Perthites there is something very special about having a place to escape to in WA’s South West. A small sanctuary where the pace of city life slows and time outdoors becomes part of the everyday. Hidden among the trees in Yallingup, Wildwood Barn captures that feeling beautifully. Expertly constructed Honeypot Homes, this custom built compact barn-style retreat has been crafted as a warm and welcoming escape, combining high quality finishes with natural materials to create a home that feels perfectly suited to its bushland setting.
The design, created in collaboration with Bare Architects, draws on the simplicity of traditional barn forms while introducing refined details and carefully considered spaces that enhance comfort and connection to the surrounding landscape. The result is a home that balances rustic character with a sense of understated sophistication, offering a relaxed yet highly considered retreat in one of the South West’s most sought-after coastal regions.
Large areas of glazing have been implemented to frame the landscape at every opportunity to become part of the interior experience. In the bedrooms, full-height windows turn the surrounding trees and valley into living artwork, softened by timber framing that adds warmth. In the main living area, sliding doors dissolve the boundary between inside and out, while a vaulted ceiling introduces volume without sacrificing intimacy. A custom L-shaped built-in sofa defines the living zone, creating a space that feels contemporary yet relaxed.

Technical performance was built in with louvred windows allowing breezes to pass through the home naturally, with energy efficiency and BAL compliance integrated rather than treated as an afterthought. A distinctive window at the peak of the home draws light deep into the interior while pulling the tree canopy visually indoors.
Polished concrete flooring grounds the interior, while custom cabinetry and window seats introduce softness and comfort. Throughout the home, the palette is not overwhelming and the design consistently prioritises light, landscape and material integrity.
The outdoor spaces extend this same architectural language. A concrete block wall forms an outdoor living area with subtle lighting to enjoy evenings outside while enjoying the stars. An outdoor bath becomes the project’s most indulgent moment, yet it is handled with restraint, offering a deeply immersive connection to nature rather than a showpiece gesture. Alongside an outdoor shower and fire pit, these spaces reinforce the idea of living with the landscape, not simply beside it.
Set at the northern end of the Margaret River Wine Region, Wildwood Barn is only a short drive from renowned wineries, restaurants and art galleries. The Wildwood Valley itself enjoys pristine views towards the Indian Ocean, but is also exposed to sweeping weather fronts that move through the site. Honeypot Homes’ construction approach responds directly to these conditions, building a warm sanctuary in all seasons, offering protection without compromising openness or light. The surrounding landscape has been left intentionally raw, guided by South West Landscape Collective, strengthening the home’s sense of belonging rather than dominance.
The project was highly collaborative, with an owner deeply engaged in design and architecture. This shared approach is evident in the level of detail throughout, from high-end material selections and custom cabinetry to finely detailed joinery. Practical elements such as generous built-in storage, a wood fire, EV car charging, and large areas of glazing for natural light and coastal views have all been thoughtfully integrated.
Wildwood Barn is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home luxury barn style home with an additional outdoor bath. It is a home that stands as a refined example of Honeypot Homes’ ability to deliver contemporary architecture with warmth and technical confidence. It feels grounded and elevated, delivering a calm, genuine connection to its landscape and defined by clarity of construction.
