Shaw + Smith was established in 1989 by cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill-Smith MW. They focus on varieties that suit the cooler Hills climate: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
Growing the best possible grapes, managing vineyards sustainably, and valuing vine health, soil health, and low yields are central to the Shaw + Smith approach. In the pursuit of quality the wines are fermented, aged and bottled on site at Balhannah. The wines are vibrant, modern expressions of their varieties, their sites and the season.

BEST WINES TO CELLAR
Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz – $97 per bottle
Graphite, sage, Kalamata olive brine, and satsuma plum, are some of the myriad of flavours on the palate, which is lively and medium bodied. Fruit, spice, fine grippy tannins, and acid all contribute on the long finish, a good indication of this wine’s great aging potential. Will reward careful cellaring for up to 20 years.
M3 Chardonnay – $58 per bottle
Energetic and intense with notes of lemon curd, grapefruit pith and ginger snap. The wine has beautiful natural acidity and a weight and complexity that is triumph of the season. Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years.
Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc – $33 per bottle
Low yields meant the vines put their energy into a smaller crop, giving us intense flavours with striking natural acidity. There is concentration and texture on the mid-palate with flavours of Tahitian lime, florals and a touch of nettle. Fresh, bright and expressive.
