In a 1930s Art Deco block in Bondi Junction, TCB Building Group has transformed a tired two bedroom, one bathroom apartment into a sophisticated city home. The renovation is a delicate balance of staying true to the apartment’s Art Deco heritage while introducing the practicalities of modern living.
The palette is warm and textural, led by Florentine walnut joinery and beautiful veined Arabascato stone. Features such as the under cabinet lighting to highlight the stone and custom made handles add a subtle layer of individuality. Bold coloured bathroom tiles laid diagonal checkerboard pattern give a confident Art Deco feel to the apartment’s original era with a high complementing tile border around the wall. These details set the tone for a home that feels both considered and characterful.

Space was a key factor, and much of the design thinking was about how to make every square metre work harder and finding smart ways to open up the living zones. A hidden study, a concealed laundry, and a wall of cabinetry when closed looks seamless, mean the apartment can shift easily from everyday living to entertaining. Instead of a conventional dining table, the design incorporates a custom upholstered bench and bar nook which was an inventive solution that fits the scale of the apartment without sacrificing lifestyle.
The brief for this Art Deco renovation called for a modern take on vintage styling, and that’s exactly what Sydney luxury builders TCB Building Group has achieved. The apartment is layered with thoughtful design moves that reveal themselves slowly, from the concealed joinery to the patterned tilework. It’s a home that has maximised space and acknowledges its Art Deco roots while confidently stepping into the present.
