Located in the northern Brisbane suburb of Stafford in Queensland, this 800m² property is anything but ordinary and that’s exactly how the owners wanted it. With great city views and a vibrant, music-loving personality woven through every room, this home is a sensational example of thoughtful design and personal style, brought to life by Style Kitchens by Design.

The brief was simple, to design a home that’s modern, innovative, and filled with wow-factor moments, without losing the warmth and personality that a retired couple with extended family and frequently visiting grandkids deserve. And wow did they deliver!

Leading this detailed project was Stuart May, Head Designer and Founder of Style Kitchens by Design. Together with his team and in collaboration with All Stone Specialist for the stonework Stuart designed, supplied and installed the a complete fit-out of cabinetry and stone that spans the kitchen, pantry, bathrooms, wardrobes, living zones, studio, garage, cellar, external guest house, and even some seriously impressive custom shelving.

Yes, spherical shelving made from solid timber is just one of the many statement moments throughout the house that gives this home its creative edge. One of the homeowners is a passionate musician with an already creative mind which is reflected in the quirky display of Blues Brothers memorabilia and a high-end speaker collection.

The kitchen is absolutely fabulous. Designed with a luxurious blend of high-performance surfaces, sleek custom finishes, and precision-engineered cabinetry, it strikes the perfect balance between function and flair. Premium integrated appliances keep the overall aesthetic clean and streamlined, while clever LED lighting features and thoughtfully designed storage elevate the space from everyday to extraordinary. Every element feels curated, considered, and built to perform this is modern kitchen design at its finest.

And then there’s the unique detail of an illuminated acrylic splashback embedded with real feathers, positioned directly under a stunning skylight that mirrors its shape a dreamy, ethereal touch that adds softness and elegance to the sleek space. The custom stone island, shaped with striking angles, is equally impressive and acts as the sculptural centrepiece of the room.

This home isn’t just beautiful it’s technically brilliant. One of the most challenging and rewarding design features was the solid timber curved feature wall, masterfully crafted to wrap around a natural sandstone wall. “It was very complicated,” Stuart admits. “We first had to create precise templates, install them, then manufacture the final wall from solid timber, and finally install around the sandstone wall” It was a serious undertaking but the result is phenomenal.

In the lounge room, brass mesh inserts in the cabinetry offer a beautiful contrast to the modern finishes, little touches that make a big visual impact. And in the dining area, the custom spherical timber shelving makes a statement, turning a practical need into a work of art.

Every bedroom in the home features custom cabinetry, with the master walk-in robe designed entirely bespoke to suit the clients’ needs. In the bathrooms, custom vanities with LED lighting bring a touch of glamour and practicality, elevating everyday routines into luxurious rituals.

One of the most impressive things about this project is the holistic nature of the design. Stuart and his team didn’t just create beautiful cabinetry they created a comfortable creative home that reflects the home owner. From the garage to the external guest house, from the wine cellar to the studio space, every corner has been considered and carefully crafted.

“Being able to design and deliver the complete job making the clients satisfied is what makes us more proud” says Stuart. “Every client is unique so every environment we create must reflect their ‘being’. A fundamental characteristic of design craftsmanship is the creation of unique pieces, each style kitchen is customised to reflect the taste and needs of each customer.”
