Roche Bobois Collaborates with Pedro Almodóvar and Rossy de Palma
A striking intersection of film, furniture, and colour took centre stage at Milan Design Week 2025, as renowned French furniture house Roche Bobois unveiled an imaginative partnership with Spanish film legend Pedro Almodóvar and his longtime muse, Rossy de Palma.
The collaboration emerged organically after several Roche Bobois pieces were prominently featured in Almodóvar’s latest film The Room Next Door starring Julianne Moore alongside Tilda Swinton. That cinematic connection evolved into something far more tangible, with the director bringing his unmistakable aesthetic sensibility to the realm of interior design.
For his first foray into furniture design, Almodóvar reimagined iconic Roche Bobois pieces, infusing them with the vibrant colour language that defines his films. His artistic touch is most notably seen in a special edition of the Lounge sofa designed by Hans Hopfer which incorporates imagery inspired by his cinematic universe. Only 50 of these unique pieces exist globally, each one signed and numbered by the director, elevating them from furnishings to collectible design objects
The launch also coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the brand’s cult-favourite Bubble sofa by designer Sacha Lakic. Almodóvar has curated four new colourways for the piece – each one seemingly plucked from the frames of Volver, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, or Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! – making these new iterations feel like cinematic props turned lounge-worthy art.
Adding another creative layer, Rossy de Palma has crafted an exclusive capsule collection for the brand. Known for her theatrical presence and avant-garde flair, de Palma’s contribution reflects her distinctive vision, echoing her longstanding influence in both the fashion and film worlds.
Commenting on the collaboration, Almodóvar shared, “To me, these pieces of furniture are far more than mere objects: they are pieces of life that carry a highly positive energy,” says Almodóvar. “I am convinced that sitting on this sofa, walking on these rugs or just looking at these designs will breathe renewed optimism into everyone.”
This creative union speaks to Roche Bobois’ ongoing dedication to fusing design with the wider artistic landscape – where visual storytelling and emotional resonance are as integral as form and function.
While the collection debuted to international acclaim in Milan, Australian audiences can experience it up close at the Roche Bobois showroom in Sydney.
