In Sydney’s Vaucluse, the home technology experts at Denote have delivered one of the most technologically advanced private residences in the world. Earning the title of Best Integrated Home (Global) at the 2024 CEDIA Smart Home Awards, this exceptional luxury residence was built for a radiologist with an exacting eye for detail. Executing a complex brief, Denote effectively delivered the World’s Smartest Home – a home of technological brilliance that integrates comfort, security, entertainment and wellbeing into a residence of the highest calibre.
Unlike many new builds in the area which are designed for resale, this luxury Vaucluse home was conceived as a residence the family could truly enjoy for at least the next decade – and technology was of paramount importance to the project. The client’s passion for technology saw them deeply involved in the planning process. After frustrations with previous systems, reliability was nonnegotiable, and only proven, world class equipment would make the cut.
Following extensive consultations and tours of other smart homes, Savant was chosen for its unmatched performance and intuitive interface that enables the entire household from children to nannies and grandparents to operate the home with ease. Voice control triggers customise scenes across the property, while remote access enables management and maintenance from anywhere in the world.
As a medical professional that handled sensitive client records, the highest levels of data protection were required, thus a true enterprise-grade network featuring real-time threat assessment with a dedicated business fiber internet connection, was installed to underpin every system in the house – a constantly monitored network that guarantees both performance and peace of mind. But security was just the start.Working extremely long hours the client’s philosophy was that downtime should be enjoyed to the fullest. This necessitated a system that would perform various automated functions with minimal interaction from the owner and as music lovers and cinephiles, a superior audio-visual experience was an absolute necessity.
High-performance Meridian Audio speakers brings studio quality sound to living spaces, while the gym enjoys the same clarity and precision through a custom timber framed installation. Even the expansive outdoor terrace was acoustically engineered, with discreet speakers hidden inside custom designed garden pots to preserve the clean architectural lines. The family’s Bösendorfer grand piano was also integrated into the system so it could play throughout the home alongside digital streaming in multiple zones.
One challenge of the project was the living room where the interior team had designed a freestanding marble wall to separate the living and music rooms, a feature never intended to accommodate a large television. Denote’s team reworked the design to flush mount the client’s desired 75 inch display with millimetre precision, complete with hidden ventilation, concealed cabling, and perfectly aligned in-wall speakers that outperform traditional floor standing models. The result is a space that conceals its complexity beneath flawless detail.
The home’s intelligence extends far beyond entertainment. Denote integrated everything from AV, security and lighting to HVAC, motorised shades and underfloor heating. This was done with automated power protection and filtration safeguarding every system against Sydney’s unpredictable weather.
The entire system is remotely monitored under Denote’s comprehensive concierge service. From fibre internet and satellite TV to updates, licences and security monitoring, every technical detail is maintained by Denote’s team, leaving the owners free to simply enjoy the experience. This project has won over 10 major industry awards, making it the world’s most awarded home for the 2024 season.
At the heart of the home sits its crown jewel, a dedicated luxury cinema valued at over $1.5 million. The brief was to “build a cinema to rival the finest private theatres in the world” and Denote delivered exactly that. Designed in collaboration with Meridian Audio & Italian Acoustic specialists Officina Acustica, it features more than 200 precision-crafted acoustic panels imported from Italy and assembled in Sydney. Every sound, from the softest whisper to the deepest cinematic bass, is rendered with breathtaking clarity.
Every decision, every wire and every line of code in this project was shaped by the pursuit of excellence to create a residence where luxury, technology and artistry operate in perfect synchrony – a benchmark in home integration not only for Australia but for the world stage.
