In 2024, Ikecho celebrates 25 years in the luxury jewellery industry, continuing its legacy of showcasing nature’s artistry with unique and exceptional pieces of pearl and opal jewellery. 

Founded by Erica Miller in 1999, Ikecho has grown from a visionary pearl company into a leader in luxury jewellery, recognised for its exquisite use of beautiful Australian opals and pearls. Over the past quarter of a century, the company has reached significant turning points with collections like the Bambini Collection. Inspired by her daughter, Erica designed the gorgeous children’s pearl jewellery series which reflects the craftsmanship of all their other collections. The Earth+Ocean Collection uses vibrant unique elements found across Australia’s land and water. Drawing on Miller’s expertise, each piece pairs opals from South Australia’s famed mines with South Sea Mabe pearls sourced from the clear waters of Western Australia. These natural treasures reflect Ikecho’s commitment to showcasing Australia’s rich resources and embody the brand’s passion for organic design.

The collection captures the essence of earth and ocean through the harmony of opal and pearl, with each piece echoing the colour, shape, and character of Australia’s diverse landscape. 

The journey begins with the careful implantation of a polished opal into the shell of a live Batwing Oyster, which is then returned to the ocean to allow layers of nacre, also known as mother of pearl, to form around the opal. Over 18 months to two years, the opal develops into a Mabe pearl, resulting in a gracefully domed shape that captures the beauty of both earth and sea.

After the growth period, skilled artisans carefully harvest and polish each pearl, revealing the opal’s iridescent hues beneath its nacre layers. This delicate process showcases the opal’s unique vibrancy alongside the elegance of the pearl, creating pieces that are impossible to replicate. Each item is a testament to the unpredictability and artistry of nature, combining organic forms with refined gold settings that enhance their beauty. Each Earth+Ocean piece is a rare treasure, offering the wearer a slice of Australia’s natural beauty that can be cherished for generations.
