Poised high above the coastline on a steep 45 degree slope, Sandy Beach House is a striking example of contemporary architecture shaped by its challenging site. Built by husband and wife team Jason and Emma de Groot of JDG Constructions, this award-winning home maximises its panoramic views while showcasing the technical skill and design finesse that have cemented JDG’s reputation as one of Northern NSW’s leading luxury builders.
The residence earned major accolades including HIA Northern NSW Custom Built Home of the Year and HIA Greater NSW Custom Built Home of the Year ($2.5M–$4M). Working with G2 Architects, JDG responded to the client’s brief for a modern, light filled home with a terraced design that steps naturally into the landscape – anchored yet open to the sweeping ocean horizon.
Expansive glazing, outdoor terraces, and an infinity edge pool blur the line between indoors and out, while a sculptural helical staircase forms the interior’s centrepiece – an engineering feat finished with timber treads and LED detailing.
Inside, a sophisticated monochromatic palette allows the spectacular views to take centre stage. The master suite offers a private sanctuary with uninterrupted ocean views, while the sunken lounge with fireplace, sleek modern kitchen, and alfresco dining terrace create inviting spaces for family living and entertaining.
Sandy Beach House is not just a response to a difficult site, it is a defining project for JDG Constructions – a daring showcase of technical expertise and craftsmanship and deserving award winner.
