Winner of the Landscape of the Year at the 2016 Landscaping Victoria Awards is this designer outdoor space with rustic appeal by Melbourne’s Formation Landscapes.
Transforming what was previously a sloping and unusable Surrey Hills backyard, Formation Landscapes created a stunning and functional entertaining space that judges described as

“..a fantastic balance of both hard and soft scape elements, completed to an impeccable level of detail”.

One aspect that captured the judge’s attention was Formation Landscapes’ expert treatment of a difficult site that has enabled them to create a flowing space that incorporates everything you’d want for luxurious outdoor entertaining.

Surrounded by frameless glass fencing the sparkling pool with built -in mosaic tiled spa creates is a focal point at the centre of the entertaining area. A retaining wall has been built on one end supports a raised timber deck of grey iron bark. Generously sized and with feature lighting it’s just one of several areas to sit and enjoy the tranquility of this lovely space.

Ensuring that the space can be enjoyed all year round, Formations have designed a fabulous outdoor room. Clad in feature stone and timber and with timber look flooring, it has a rustic appeal that allows it to blend harmoniously with the surroundings.

With indoor lounge and dining table, the room opens up completely via bi-folding doors creating an expansive entertaining space for summer days whilst in cooler months the room becomes a cozy place to relax in front of the wood fire. A stone feature wall with built-in firewood storage also adds to the character of the rustic style room and the fully equipped kitchen includes a pizza oven, slimline SMEG barbeque and double bar fridge.

…and if all of that isn’t enough to impress, there is also a bathroom / change room and a soundproof recording studio, secretly concealed behind the feature stone wall.
