In a testament to their 15 years of dedication to the world’s finest fragrances, Libertine Parfumerie recently unveiled its gorgeous flagship store, in the stylish heart of Paddington – inviting patrons to immerse themselves in some of the most luxurious scents on the planet.

A fusion of history and modernity the Libertine Parfumerie is located just footsteps from the fashionable Glenmore Road intersection and a growing number of beauty-centric shopping destinations. Local interior designer Tamsin Johnson was engaged to create a retail experience that honours the maturity of the brand and its prestigious portfolio of products that includes cornerstone brands like Amouage, Creed, and Trudon.

“Establishing a flagship in Sydney is a momentous occasion for Libertine Parfumerie. Since opening our first boutique in Brisbane the brand has experienced significant market growth – especially through our online store – matched only in momentum by our portfolio of brands which has broadened to include some of the most revered names in fragrance,” said Nick Smart, who owns and operates Libertine Parfumerie as the retail face of his wholesale business, Agence de Parfum.“The Sydney flagship stands as a timestamp of our journey so far and Tamsin was the perfect design partner to ensure Libertine Parfumerie makes its mark among likeminded, luxurious labels in Paddington. We wanted to a create a space that hasn’t been seen in Australian beauty retail.”

The store’s glazed facade offers a glimpse into Johnson’s inspired aesthetic which blends classic European influences with an effortless antipodean charm, featuring old French chiffoniers against the backdrop of 1800’s sandstone walls, creating a tableau for candles, room diffusers, homewares, and, of course, the world’s most desired perfumes. A nod to apothecaries from centuries past, the bespoke timber joinery featured throughout has been beautifully crafted from stained European oak and Johnson’s meticulous attention to detail is evident in every element, from brushed metal railings to white marble plinths, glass-backed dispensary doors, and elongated product baskets. The front and rear sections of the boutique are backdropped by an old-world painting technique that recreates the appearance of marble-clad walls and  Versailles inspired parquetry flooring underfoot adding to the charming European ambience.

“I am very fond of the soft mint ‘marble’ for its magnificent trompe l’oeil effect,” remarks Johnson, who reveals that the surfaces were masterfully painted by a skilled within her network of contacts, adding an element of mystery to the narrative.

The rich ambiance of the store is further enhanced with contemporary Italian glass pieces sourced from Murano, including two spectacular chandeliers, wall pendants, and sculptural vases. Throughout the carefully curated space, visitors are invited on a sensory journey with each section thoughtfully designed to cater to the distinct character of each brand.

Adding a new dimension to the sensory experience Libertine introduces the homewares brand Fornasetti to the Libertine Parfumerie lineup, complemented by offerings from Compagnie de Provence, Juliette Has a Gun, Floris London, and an array of other distinguished names. The secluded rear section of the boutique houses rare and precious bottles from marquee perfume brands, creating an intimate haven for fragrance connoisseurs. In the courtyard, vintage furniture and lush foliage beckons patrons to pause and immerse themselves in the ambience. Tamsin Johnson’s design vision transcends the ordinary, offering a shopping experience reminiscent of Paris or Milan.

The Libertine Parfumerie Sydney flagship, located at Shop 6/134-140 Oxford Street, Paddington, is now open from 10 am to 5:30 pm, seven days a week. Step into a world where luxury meets artistry, and let your senses revel in the exquisite fragrances that define Libertine Parfumerie.
