This custom designed, contemporary home in Perth’s riverside suburb of Bicton is the perfect blend of casual elegance and functional family living. Designed and built by Maughan Building Company the home has been specifically tailored to the needs of the client and constructed within only twelve months.
Several considerations needed to be taken into account during the design phase including maintaining privacy within the home on the large corner block building site, along with preservation of a majestic Jacaranda tree. The resulting design of splayed guttering, and clean angular lights with a light render exterior has created a home that is functional and has great aesthetic appeal within both streetscapes.
The lower floor of the home centres around a large open plan kitchen, dining and living area that lead to two separate alfresco areas, one on either side. Glass doors by both the dining and living area open onto an alfresco by the pool. This also features a built in barbeque and an automated pergola system that making it excellent for year round entertaining.
Built to take in the northern aspect, there is an abundance of natural light that floods in through ceiling height windows and a window splashback over the kitchen bench. Despite the minimalist design and predominance of white in the interior palette the ambience in the home is warm and inviting, largely due to the stunning silver travertine flooring that adds both an organic richness and sense of luxury to the home.
A central pillar in the home also contributes to the earthy undertone, as well as providing a subtle delineation of the living space. As well as rustic charm, the pillar also adds some historical value to the home having been a pylon of a Sydney Harbour jetty that has been recycled.
Despite its speedy construction the attention to detail and solar passive design initiatives that have become a trademark of Maughan Building Company, have not been left out of this lovely home.
