Designer Rugs Latest Collaboration with Greg Natale

The long-standing creative partnership between Designer Rugs and Greg Natale continues to deliver the most beautiful luxurious designs underfoot, with the unveiling of their latest collaboration called the Cruda Collection. Marking their seventh project together, this new series translates Natale’s bold use of colour and Designer Rugs’ handmade artistic skills into a bold study of shape, surface and sensory appeal.

Few names in Australian luxury design carry the same weight as Greg Natale. Known for his meticulous layering, bold geometry, and sense of colour, Natale has long been celebrated for creating interiors we’ve been showcasing for many years that feel both structured and sensual. Now, in this latest collaboration with Designer Rugs, an Australian brand synonymous with bespoke creations and artistic collaboration for nearly four decades, the brand continues to push the boundaries of design through collections that merge Australia’s leading designers and artists.

Inspired by the bold geometry of Brutalist art, Italian Rationalism, and modernist architecture, Cruda (Italian for raw) translates architectural rigour into expressive, handmade rugs. Each design explores abstraction through refined shapes, layered pile heights, and tonal interplay, revealing the beauty of imperfection.

“I hope the collection is understood as an expression of reductive form and modern industrial materials, translated into a softer, tactile language,” says Greg Natale. “The aim is to reveal the beauty of imperfection and celebrate irregularity as an integral part of contemporary aesthetics, bringing these ideals into the home in both a symbolic and meaningful way.”

Hand knotted from Tibetan wool and bamboo silk, the six designs named Vivo, Rozzo, Dura, Freddo, Ruvida, and Terroso each possess a sculptural quality that feels at once architectural and organic.

Rozzo

Hand knotted in Tibetan wool, Rozzo features large-scale asymmetrical shapes that come together like a modern mural. Inspired by the carved concrete panels and textured reliefs of mid-century Brutalism, its composition explores depth, rhythm and shadow.

Ruvida

A circular rug woven from Tibetan wool and bamboo silk, Ruvida layers tonal off-whites and erratic lines to evoke the distressed textures of concrete and industrial surfaces. Subtle shifts in pile heights create dimension and texture.
