This experience, paired with his horticultural background, laid the foundation for his craft-driven approach, honed further in Australia with the establishment of Michael Unwin Wines in 2000.
Located on a scenic 100-acre property just west of Ballarat, the winery is a testament to independence and sustainability. Every aspect of production – from grape growing to bottling and tasting happens on-site. The eco-conscious facilities operate entirely off-grid using solar power, and earthen floors significantly reduce the carbon footprint.
More than just a winery, the property is a lush haven with thousands of trees planted to restore native woodlands and support biodiversity. 2017 Tattooed Lady Shiraz
The name of this label derives from the letters TL written on the barrels. Meaning “Tender Love”. This shiraz is the pick of the vintage each year and matured for 5 years before bottling, allowing to develop many layers of complexity and develop the tannins into a velvety fantasy for the palate. Earthy and savoury notes are matched by anise and herbal notes. This gorgeous Shiraz is the pride and joy of the winemaker and will last an age on the palate and will age for another 15 years in your cellar if you can resist opening it.
2022 Umbrella Man Verdejo
This gem of a variety adores the cool Ballarat climate and rewards the drinker with immense complexity. Hand picked and starting its fermentation on skins this is often referred to as a white wine for red wine drinkers. A ‘marmalade’ wine, it boasts a touch of aromatic fruit intensity on a foundation savoury structure to match any food. This is a delight to drink now or lay down for 4-5 years.
2020 Umbrella Man Cabernet Sauvignon
