A spectacular waterfront site in Applecross called for a pool and outdoor entertaining space that would be an integral feature of this new home’s design. Sitting centre stage, on the elevated site, it needed to be just as impressive as the home itself. Incorporating a stunning mosaic-tiled infinity pool with built in spa, surrounded by tiered gardens and sitting spaces, the brief has been executed beyond all expectations by Perth’s Bluestone Pools who have created a luxurious outdoor entertaining space that is a highlight of the home.
The natural incline of the site called for an infinity edge pool that would allow the commanding river views to be enjoyed from every available angle. Raised above ground level, there was minimal requirement for fencing which allowed for unobstructed views from within the pool zone. The inspired design by Bluestone recently saw it receive industry recognition when it was awarded the SPASA WA 2021 pool of the Year.
This exceptional design delivers much more than meets the naked eye contributing to the structural integrity of the home by acting as retaining and foundations for the main and basement level.
The 16.5 by 5.5m water playground begins with a 3m raised island spa which includes comfortable reclined seats and luxurious stainless steel fittings. Skillful design gives the illusion that the water appears to be running underneath so that the spa appears to be floating within pool. A 2 meter Baja ledge on one side of the pool creates the perfect place to sit and take in the beautiful views. The ledge also cleverly cascades over on two sides to create a water fall feature as a backdrop to the outdoor cinema lounge area below. On the other side a marine-grade timber deck cantilevers out over the pool with led strip lighting fitted underneath. Expertly tiled in gorgeous Italian porcelain tiles, the space incorporates over 25 metres of infinity edge across 7 different spillover faces, creating a stunning aesthetic that beautifully complements the Swan River backdrop.
