Margaret River
As one of the five founding wineries in the Margaret River region, Cape Mentelle has played a pioneering role in shaping the area’s renowned wine styles and since its establishment in 1970, the winery has gained global recognition for its exceptional and award-winning wines. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding environment, the Cape Mentelle philosophy is centred on capturing a unique sense of place in every bottle, characteristics defined by their pristine coastal location, unique soils and 50 year history.
Comprising over 120 hectares of vines, the vineyards at Cape Mentelle boast diverse plantings with a focus on cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc with smaller batch semillon, cabernet franc and zinfandel. Adhering to ingrained sustainability practices, the winery is a proud member of Sustainable Wine Growing Australia and notably, Cape Mentelle was the first winery in Western Australia to achieve the prestigious Entwine accreditation for its commitment to sustainability.
BEST WINES TO CELLAR
2018 Cabernet Sauvignon – $86 per bottle
A full-bodied wine with intense blue and black berry preserves on entry, followed by tobacco, savoury and gamey layers, all framed by firm, ripe tannins creating a complex wine of length. Will cellar well for 10 plus years.
2021 Chardonnay – $60 per bottle
The palate is fresh and vibrant with a bright minerality and lovely biscuity texture. Succulent and salivating, opening up to frangipani, honeysuckle and lemon pie with the mouthfeel of silken tofu. Medium bodied with a crystalline acidity and beautiful fruit purity, finishing with poise and clarity. Will age gracefully for 10-15 years.
2018 Zinfandel – $65 per bottle
The palate bursts forth with ripe juicy black fruits of cherry and plum, with streaks of raspberry coulis entwined with fresh tobacco and mocha notes. The tannins fan out framing the fruit with good integration carrying mid palate sweetness through to a long, fine, yet firm finish. The subtle smoke and toast of the oak give a dark forest floor character. Ready for enjoyment in its youth, this wine can also be cellared for 10-25 years and beyond.
