Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese practice of harmonising one’s surroundings, has long been revered for its ability to enhance the energy flow within a space and promote balance and positivity in one’s life. A home with optimal Feng Shui can have a profound influence on our well-being, and it’s becoming increasingly popular to engage a Feng Shui consultant at the initial stages of home design.

Koi fish hold a special place in Feng Shui for several reasons. First and foremost, these colorful and graceful fish are known to symbolise abundance, prosperity, and good fortune in Chinese culture. Their vibrant colors and energetic movements are believed to stimulate positive energy, or “chi,” within a space. Additionally, Koi fish are associated with the element of water, which is a fundamental element in Feng Shui. Water is considered a source of life and essential for balancing energies in the home. The presence of Koi fish or Koi fish imagery, whether in a pond, painting, or sculpture, can promote a harmonious flow of energy and contribute to a sense of tranquility and prosperity in your living environment.

Having lived, worked and travelled around Asia, with a particular connection to Singapore, Australian artist, Katrina Read has a deep respect for the culture and people she has interacted with along her travels. Her work in the Prosperity Series is a gentle, respectful fusion of the Eastern and Western cultures that have shaped her. A symbol of strength, perseverance and abundance, the Prosperity Series features Koi fish in works that inspire deep contemplation and tranquility. Through diverse colour palettes and fluid forms, each artwork beautifully conveys the noble symbolism of the Koi, even with limited context of its significance in Eastern cultures.
