The client’s brief was for a solar passive home, suited to the harsh Alpine climate where it snows sometimes during winter months. With its flat terrain, the building site itself, allowed for design innovation and the 450sqm residence has been masterfully conceived so that despite its contemporary profile, the structure integrates perfectly with the surrounding natural habitat.
Expertly combining a myriad of sustainable materials, the home incorporates an off-form concrete structure, exuding a sense of modernity and strength. In contrast, the first floor and the four-car garage are framed with steel and clad in sleek zinc sheeting. A pop-up highlight roof above the ground floor living, dining, and kitchen areas showcases hardwood boards on the soffit lining, which adds warmth and character to the facade.
Polished concrete floors on the ground floor extend through to the external terraces, creating seamless indoor-outdoor flow, allowing the client to maximise enjoyment of the stunning rural vistas. Throughout the home, hardwood joinery, natural stone benchtops, custom-built sinks in the kitchen and bathrooms, and freestanding bathtubs crafted from natural stone are just a few of the luxurious features that elevate this residence to a league of its own.
On the first floor, hardwood boards have been applied to both the floors and the ceiling, adding an organic warmth to the internal spaces and elevating the living experience. To make the most of the stunning views and the north-facing aspect, full-height triple-glazed windows are strategically placed throughout the home.
