Taking full advantage of the spectacular Yarra Valley setting was a priority for the owners of this warm and inviting contemporary country home. They wanted a central communal living area flanked by two private wings under one roof line, and the home had to complement their busy work lifestyles and Melbourne custom homes builder Hedger Constructions were the ones to build it.
Constructed of a steel frame, the house features rendered Hebel panelling with stone feature walls and chimneys complementing the panelling & providing an earthy link to the rural surroundings.
Large double glazed toughened windows are argon gas filled and tinted to provide excellent vantages for the outstanding views from all rooms. As a contrast, recycled ironbark timber is used extensively for posts, screens and louvres, as well as lining to the soaring winged roof line.
Among the unique features of this country home are the stunning rammed earth hallway walls, which creating an inviting ambience and draw the owners and guests to the expansive living areas.
The striking central kitchen wraps around a large central island stone bench, the ideal place to gather and chat. Other highlights are the large floor tiles, a spacious walk-in pantry and windows to that both add light and provide views to the scenic outlook.
Again, massive windows in the living areas smartly frame the breathtaking vistas across the valley, whilst timber floors and a central gas fireplace add a warmth and cosiness to this area of the home.
As for sustainability, the home has full wall insulation, an air cell to the roof lining, acoustic batts to internal wet area walls, plus the slab heating and hot water are provided by a geothermal system, reducing running costs. There are also water tanks, which provide excellent storage for rainfall from the huge roof area.
