Every woman knows the story. You find a ‘to die for’ pair of heels.  They’re perfect for the occasion –  not exactly comfortable when you try them on, but wow – they look fabulous, and so the negotiations with yourself ensue. It’s only a few hours..  I’ll mostly be sitting down. They’ll probably soften. How bad can it be…? As we all know… very very bad..

There’s a reason an entire episode of Friends was built around Monica spending a small fortune on a fabulous pair of boots, only to discover they were so painful she could barely walk in them – it’s because most women have lived some version of it. Within an hour, you’re scouting the room for an available chair. Not long after that, you’re slipping your shoes off under the table hoping nobody notices, and then you start to plot how soon you can reasonably leave a perfectly enjoyable evening because you cannot possibly spend another second in your shoes.

And as many of us know, spending more doesn’t necessarily solve the problem. Louboutin, YSL, Jimmy Choo… with the price comes the label, the beautiful packaging and some serious fashion cred, but not necessarily greater comfort. Most women who love shoes have several pairs of spectacular shoes that cost far too much to be a dressing room decoration seeing as that’s all they’ll be after being worn exactly once.

For decades, we’ve simply accepted that this is the deal with heels – if you want the height, style and confidence of a beautiful shoe, discomfort is part of the package.

Then along came COSY ISLAND.

Stylish women’s heels designed for comfort and stability

Founded in 2024, the footwear brand is already attracting an impressive international following with the best thing women have heard since the supportive wireless bra – beautiful heels designed not just to look good, but to actually be worn. All day. By women with places to go and things to do.

And for working women, frankly, it’s about time.

Yes, we want to be comfortable. But no, we don’t necessarily want to join the rest of the population and wear trainers everywhere. Often we want a beautiful pair of heels – we just don’t want to spend half the day regretting the decision.

We want shoes we can put on for a morning meeting and still be wearing when that meeting leads to lunch, lunch runs into appointments and suddenly it’s 7pm and we’re heading somewhere for drinks or dinner. Because there is nothing particularly useful about a beautiful pair of heels if they only work when the plan is car, restaurant, car.

Real life has an annoying habit of changing the itinerary. Someone suggests walking. There are stairs. There’s a stretch of pavement nobody mentioned. Or the person assuring you “it’s literally just around the corner” happens to be wearing sneakers.

Suddenly those gorgeous heels have become the day’s main logistical problem.

Built For The Women On The Move

You’re skeptical, right? Beautiful heels you can actually walk around in all day…. how are they doing it?

It turns out there is considerably more to making a heel comfortable than adding a bit of padding and hoping for the best. With decades in the shoe industry, the company behind COSY ISLAND has looked at the entire construction of the shoe – how the foot is supported, where pressure falls, how the shoe flexes as you walk and, importantly, how stable you feel when you’re actually moving.

There is targeted cushioning and arch support, with the positioning and structure of the heel designed to improve balance and distribute pressure more effectively. Heel width and shape are also taken into account, creating a sturdier base that is far less likely to disappear into a pavement crack at precisely the wrong moment.

Then there are the uppers. Rather than rigid materials that start rubbing the moment your feet move or worse – swell, COSY ISLAND uses flexible, stretchable knit fabrics that adapt to the natural movement and shape of the foot. Anyone who has developed a blister before even arriving at the event will understand why that matters.

Underneath, slip-resistant outsoles provide greater grip, while the relationship between the heel, outsole and foot position has been engineered around stability and confident movement. The company has also undertaken pressure and biomechanical research as part of the development of its comfort system.

In other words, COSY ISLAND has looked at the things that normally make us regret wearing heels  – aching arches, pressure under the foot, rubbing, instability, slippery floors and heels that seem magnetically attracted to gaps in the pavement – and then started designing them out.

And that is perhaps the cleverest part. COSY ISLAND isn’t trying to make a sensible shoe look fashionable. It’s taking the shoe we actually want to wear and rethinking how it’s built so we can keep wearing it.

So, Are They Actually Comfortable?

Of course, every shoe company can tell you its shoes are comfortable – so our Editor decided there was only one reasonable course of action, wear a pair of COSY ISLAND Soft Bounce heels for an entire day and see what happened.

And she didn’t spend the day sitting behind a desk. There were outside meetings, lunch, more meetings and an evening event to attend. After more than 12 hours on her feet, the verdict was surprisingly unequivocal;

“Seriously comfortable heels, you could literally run in them!”

More importantly, there wasn’t that familiar moment halfway through the day when your shoes suddenly become the only thing you can think about.

And , Unlike Most ‘Comfortable Heels’, There’s Actually a Choice

Perhaps what’s most impressive about COSY ISLAND, is that comfort hasn’t been confined to one “sensible-looking” shoe. This isn’t a case of finding the comfortable pump and buying it in black, beige and perhaps navy if you’re feeling adventurous.

The collection is extensive, moving through classic pumps, slingbacks and mules to platforms, boots and higher statement heels, with different heel heights, silhouettes and a myriad of colours. There are shoes for the office, shoes for dinner and shoes that look like they belong at an event rather than in a section labelled comfort footwear.

That distinction is important – COSY ISLAND isn’t asking women to compromise on style in order to gain comfort its whole proposition is that the two should have been designed together in the first place.

In a relatively short time, that thinking has found a substantial audience. COSY ISLAND reports an Instagram community of more than 195,000 and more than 600,000 members, with the US, Europe and Canada among its key markets.

It isn’t difficult to understand the appeal. Women haven’t suddenly stopped loving heels. We still love the way a beautiful shoe can finish an outfit, add height and make us feel fabulous. We’re just increasingly reluctant to accept that looking good from the ankles down should mean being miserable everywhere else.

A great pair of heels should make you want to put them on – not spend the rest of the day wondering when you can take them off.

And after a full day road-testing hers, our Editor’s COSY ISLAND Super Bounce heels have already achieved something many far more expensive pairs haven’t – they’re going back on her feet, not to the back of the wardrobe.
