It also gives homeowners room to think ahead. Will that room become a nursery in a few years? A home office? Will the system chosen now still suit the household a decade from now? These are easier questions to answer at the design stage than after the concrete’s poured.

Heating and cooling shouldn’t be the last decision made on a custom build. It should be one of the first. A house designed with climate control in mind from day one tends to run more efficiently and feels more comfortable to live in than one where comfort was patched on afterwards. The equipment matters, and so do the trades involved, but the thinking that happens before a single wall goes up matters most of all.
