Nestled in the limestone cliffs above Blackwall Reach, offering enviable sweeping views of the Swan River that extend out to Fremantle and beyond, Capozzi Building have constructed what can only be described as a contemporary masterpiece. Winner of multiple awards including, the 2021 HIA CSR WA Spec Home of the Year and Innovation in Lightweight Housing Project of the Year, plus the 2021 Building Design of the year award, the project drew inspiration from the beautiful twists and turns of the iconic Perth waterway that it overlooks. With an agenda to maximise the stunning outlook, the brief has been masterfully executed resulting in a spectacular home that has been aptly named ‘Infinity Views’.
Difficult soil conditions and a steep sloping site with a 13m difference from top to bottom, and a sheer 7m drop, called for a re-evaluation of traditional residential topography and construction. Considering the home’s cliff-side location in the path of a wind tunnel, Infinity Views was a difficult project – leaving no margin for error. Significant foresight and understanding were required throughout construction. Despite the many obstacles, Peter Capozzi and his team of highly skilled tradespeople have
produced an outstanding structure that will last for generations to come.
Designed by award-wining Superseed Architecture, the home is unified, sophisticated and uncomplicated. The residence is split into two volumes, bridged on two floors by glass bound ‘sun halls’ and expansive balconies. This volume split offers visitors to the home a unique experience – when entering the driveway, paved in gorgeous cobblestone by Attica, between the two curved timber volumes is a clear, spectacular view of the river beyond, offering up the experiential nature of the spectacular site at first glance. The inspired design also contributes to the home’s sustainability, allowing for internal openings that capture northern light and lessen the heating and cooling loads of each volume. Internally they create two defined zones within the home, that thanks to the Fineline Minimal doors by DGA, cleverly concealed in the sun halls, can be completely opened up to create a seamless and expansive space for entertaining.
Creating internal spaces which feel private, angular walls with openings intentionally directed to specific outlooks marry the material and spatial qualities of the home to the yachts seen sailing below.
On the staircase, custom balustrading and steel rods by Envisage Steel Creations add to the minimalist, industrial style aesthetic of the polished concrete, allowing the organic tones of the timber wall cladding to become the star of the space and providing continuity from the extensive cladding used on the home’s exterior.
The minimalist palette and masterfully chosen material selection ensures that whilst the home oozes wow factor it does not compete with the stunning natural scenery.
In the kitchen, ‘Excava’ by Caesarstone which has been used for the bathroom vanities has also been chosen for the perimeter benchtops and splashbacks, whilst the kitchen island bench features Caesarstone ‘Airy Concrete’.
Established in 1962, Capozzi has a long, successful history. As a second-generation builder, Peter Capozzi started with a keen understanding of the craftsmanship and skill required to execute a high-end build. This knowledge has helped him put together a network of skilled tradespeople and focus on continually adapting to new building practices and environmental changes in the industry. These factors have allowed Capozzi Building to remain at the forefront of WA building excellence.
Most notably the outstanding finished project gives no indication of the challenges Capozzi had to overcome during the build, demonstrating their enduring commitment to exceptional quality and their respect for the significance of property investment.
